What Makes A Life Well Lived

What are the most important things needed to live a good life?

POV: If you need me, don’t.

People always say the secret to a good life is relationships. Family. Friends. Community. Connection. Which sounds lovely until you’ve actually met people. Then suddenly a cabin in Alaska starts sounding less like isolation and more like self-care.

What are the most important things for a good life… honestly, I don’t think the answer is “more people.” (For me anyway) Some people are wonderful don’t get me wrong. Some people will restore your faith in humanity. Also some people make me want to never leave my house. Human beings are a mixed bag.

The older I get, the more I think a good life is really about meaning, freedom, peace, and having something that makes you glad to wake up in the morning. For some people, that’s a house full of children, friends, and noise. For others, it’s a wood stove, a fishing pole, and enough distance from civilization to avoid hearing anyone’s opinions about.. well anything.

Maybe the goal isn’t surrounding yourself with as many people as possible. Maybe the goal is building a life that actually feels like yours.

And if that life happens to include a cabin in the middle of Alaska with a moose named Kevin stealing vegetables from your garden, then frankly, you’re doing better than most of us.
